न हि ज्ञानेन सदृशं पवित्रमिह विद्यते
na hi jñānena sadṛśaṁ pavitram iha vidyate

Nothing cleanses like understanding, the verse says. Confusion, guilt and fear thin out in the light of really seeing how things are, the way a room stops being frightening once the lamp is on.
